The UK Spouse Visa

The UK Spouse Visa, also known as the UK Settlement Visa, allows non-EU citizens to live with their spouse or partner in UK. The basic requirement: the spouse has to be a British citizen, holds Indefinite Leave to Remain or at least has a permanent right of residence.

What do you need to apply for UK Spouse Visa?

  • Both applicant and applicant's partner must be 18 years or older.
  • Status proof is required. Eligible status options: married partners, civil partners, partners living together for more than two years, as well as engaged couples.
  • Evidence of the genuineness of the relationship and the intention to live permanently with your spouse or partner in the long term.

Financial Requirements

  • A minimum income requirement - £18,600
  • A minimum income required for any children sponsored - £22,400 for one child, and an additional £2,400 for each further child
  • One can fulfil the financial requirement in one of the following ways:
  • Income from employment or self-employment of your sponsor;
  • If you apply from within the UK, the £18,600 can be made up of the income of both parties.
  • Certain income from sources other than employment, for example, rent from property;
  • State or private pensions of you and your sponsor;
  • Maternity allowances or bereavement benefits received in the UK; or
  • Cash savings over a certain level. The amount of savings that you need to have will depend on the level of other income that you and your sponsor have.

Your rights according to UK Spouse Visa

  • Permission to work without any restrictions.
  • To check the genuineness of the relationship the applicant will be subject to a probationary period for settlement of five years.
  • After successful compliance of 5-year probationary period the applicant will be allowed to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain.
