Tier 2 Shortage Occupation List is Expanding

The new changes to the shortage occupation list (SOL) have been announced earlier this month by the UK immigration minister. Following recommendations by the independent Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) in May 2019 review, the shortage list will be expanded to include occupations such as veterinarians, architects and web designers.
The upcoming changes reflect MAC's findings of those UK industries where there is currently a lack of skilled workers. The expanded shortage occupation list (SOL) will allow, in part, to fill these industries with non- EEA skilled migrants.
What could this mean for you:
- If you are a prospective applicant wishing to work in the UK in any of the occupations added on the SOL, you will be given a priority securing a Tier 2 work visa, over occupations not on the list.
- If you are a UK-based employer with a sponsor licence, you will benefit from the access to international talent to recruit in the occupations included to the SOL.
The Home Office informs that the employers can start advertising job vacancies as soon as the new changes are implemented.
