How to Quickly Settle in the UK as an Investor

How to Quickly Settle in the UK as an Investor

Thursday 18th January 2018

The United Kingdom is largely considered to be one of the most attractive places in Europe to do business and many investors prefer to relocate their companies and assets into this country. If your ambition is to invest into the UK, a Tier 1 Investor visa may be something that you are looking for.

As Tier 1 Investor you may invest £2,000,000 or more in UK government bonds, share capital or loan capital in active and trading UK registered companies. You must not have any criminal convictions and there is currently not a requirement to demonstrate English language ability. Under the conditions of your visa you are allowed to work, study or engage in business activities in the UK. However, you will not be allowed to work as a professional sportsperson or sports coach, a doctor or dentist in training.

How settle in the UK

The golden rule for Tier 1 Investors is the more you put into the UK economy, the sooner you can apply for settlement. Depending on the amount of your investments you can apply to settle permanently in the UK:

• after 2 years if you invest £10 million, or
• after 3 years if you invest £5 million, or
• after 5 years if you invest £2 million.

Every applicant and their dependants will need to make sure they do not spend over 180 days at any one year outside the UK. If the absences exceed 180 days, you may not receive settlement and will need to extend your visa instead.

How to become a British Citizen

Depending on the amount of your investments and other requirements, you may be eligible to become a British citizen:

• after 5 years if you invest £10 million, or
• after 5 years if you invest £5 million, or
• after 6 years if you invest £2 million.

Every applicant and their dependants over 18 will need to make sure they do not spend over 450 days in total outside the UK in the previous 5 years. If the absences exceed 450 days, you may not be eligible for British citizenship.
