The UK's points-based immigration system from 1 January 2021

Yesterday, Monday 13 July, the government published further detail on the UK's points-based immigration system.
The new system will take effect from 1 January 2021, once freedom of movement with the EU has ended. It will treat EU and non-EU citizens equally and prioritise skills and talent over where a person comes from. This further detail sets out:
• The principles of the system - a single, global immigration system prioritises skills and talent over where a person comes from
• Further detail on the immigration routes - the main economic migration routes for those wishing to apply to work, study or set up a business in the UK
• Applying through the new system - more information on the application process.
EU citizens already living in the UK
If you're an EU citizen living in the UK by 31 December 2020, you and your family can apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living in the UK after 30 June 2021.
