On the Horizon: Five-Point Plan for Immigration

Wednesday 6th December 2023

📅 On December 4, 2023, the Home Secretary addressed the House of Commons to unveil a comprehensive strategy to restructure legal migration in the UK. The government is poised to implement a pivotal 'five-point plan' to address recent statistical revelations and reduce net migration.

Below is an overview of the impending changes:

🚫 Health & Care Visa: Effective Spring 2024, alterations to the Health & Care visa will prohibit workers from sponsoring dependants. Care organisations seeking sponsor licences will also be required to possess Care Quality Commission (CQC) registration.

💸 Skilled Worker Salary: Beginning next Spring, the Skilled Worker salary threshold will elevate to £38,700 from the existing £26,200. Applications within the Health and Care visa route will have exemptions.

🚨 Shortage Occupation List: The recommended termination of the 20% salary discount on the Shortage Occupation List will be enforced.

🌐 Family Income Threshold: From Spring onwards, the basic minimum income threshold for British and settled family members will substantially increase, rising to £38,700 from £18,600.

🎓 Graduate Route: The MAC is set to conduct a thorough review of the Graduate route.

In light of these changes, we await further policy updates and will provide timely information once the alterations are officially implemented.
